We use these all the time, the design is great, my kid always grabs it by the straw and is able to carry the whole cup that way with the lid on due to the smart straw design. We don't worry about anything breaking, and the only plastic is the lid. You have to take all the pieces apart to wash it but the stainless steel is such a great material and the grippers are wonderful.
